Projects / Action Areas

Town Centre East

The Town Centre East is found on the approaches to the town centre core.  Its character reflects the historic development of pockets of business/industrial uses along the route of the railway line.

This area is in need of comprehensive regeneration and could accommodate a range of uses that might not be practical or desirable elsewhere.  It is probably the only appropriate location for a large food store.

Two particular buildings offer opportunities for specific projects.  These are:

  • Central Station - an under utilised asset
  • The Clyde Centre - an A-listed building owned by the Council but in a poor state of repair

This part of town offers the opportunity to create a flexible, mixed use zone at the edge of the Town Centre.  In particular, it provides Helensburgh with the prospect of creating an attractive gateway to the town.

The Partnership is again proposing to work with Argyll & Bute Council to draw up a Development Brief for this part of town.  Town Centre East could be the location for additional car parking facilities and is currently the preferred location for the Council’s proposed new offices in Helensburgh.
